Lending is regulated by the RBI. For digital lending, the Digital Lending Directions, 2025 (8 May 2025) replaced the 2022 guidelines: lenders' websites must list their lending service providers and apps, and borrowers must receive a Key Fact Statement. State costs and terms clearly and never promise approval. We measure visibility only.

Why this field gains
Each loan is valuable, borrowers compare options online, and city and loan-type searches leave room for regional lenders and advisors.
How clients choose a firm
- What will it cost, including charges?
- Am I eligible, and which documents do I need?
- How fast is the decision?
- Is there a branch or person near me?
Questions
Can NBFCs and loan advisors compete with aggregators on Google?
Yes, on local and specific searches, though rarely on broad ones. Aggregators and large banks own searches such as "personal loan" or "home loan interest rate". They are weaker on searches that combine a loan type, a borrower type and a place: "gold loan in Madurai", "msme loan for traders in Rajkot", "home loan for self employed in Indore".
Those searches come from borrowers who are closer to applying, and a page that answers them precisely often outperforms a generic comparison table.
What makes the difference:
- One page per product, with eligibility, documents, charges and a realistic timeline.
- One page per branch or city, with address, hours and the products offered there.
- Guides for hard cases, such as self-employed borrowers without ITRs or first-time business borrowers.
- Regulatory clarity. Under RBI's Digital Lending Directions, 2025, a lender's website must carry details of its lending service providers and their apps. (RBI Digital Lending Directions, 2025) Borrowers who can see this trust you more.
Track a mix of broad and local searches, so you can see where you gain and where the aggregators still lead. Google Visibility records your position in each borrower city every week.
Should lenders and loan advisors track the same searches?
Partly. Both should track the loan types and cities they serve, but their best searches differ because borrowers want different things from each.
Lenders track product and branch searches: "used car loan in Jaipur", "loan against property nbfc", "tractor loan near me". The borrower wants to apply, so the page must show eligibility, documents and charges.
Loan advisors add help-focused searches: "business loan consultant", "home loan balance transfer help", "project finance consultant for factory". These borrowers want someone to compare lenders, prepare papers and push the file forward.
Both should also track a few AI questions, such as "which NBFC gives business loans to self-employed people in Gujarat" or "how do I get a project loan for a new plant", and see who is named.
A sensible split for 25 tracked searches is roughly one third broad product searches, one third city searches and one third problem searches, adjusted to where your enquiries actually come from. Review the split after a few months using your enquiry log, and move searches that never bring enquiries off the list.
The field pages for NBFCs and lenders and loan advisors list starting searches for each.
Which RBI rules apply to lending websites and apps now?
The main one for digital channels is RBI's Digital Lending Directions, 2025, dated 8 May 2025, which repealed the 2022 Guidelines on Digital Lending along with other circulars. (RBI Digital Lending Directions, 2025) Anything you publish that cites the 2022 guidelines as current should be updated.
Points under the 2025 Directions that affect your website directly:
- Lending service providers. A regulated entity's website must carry details of its lending service providers and their digital lending apps, and the activities they are engaged for. (RBI Digital Lending Directions, 2025)
- Key Fact Statement. The regulated entity must provide a Key Fact Statement to the borrower. (RBI Digital Lending Directions, 2025) A page explaining what the KFS shows builds trust before the borrower applies.
Beyond these, the general expectations remain: show your registered name, state rates and charges clearly, show how to raise a grievance, and never promise approval. Only the lender decides, and pages that suggest otherwise lose careful borrowers and risk complaints.
For a loan advisor or sourcing partner, the lender you work with is responsible for listing you, so ask them how you appear on their site and match your own description to it.
Rules change; confirm the current position with your compliance team or RBI's published directions before publishing. This is not legal advice.
How do borrowers use Google and AI tools before applying for a loan?
They research eligibility, documents and cost first, and only then look for a lender or advisor, so the firm that answers those questions earns the first contact. Typical searches are "documents for msme loan", "can I get a home loan without itr", "loan against property interest rate nbfc" and then "gold loan near me".
AI tools now sit in front of many of those searches. On Alphabet's July 2025 earnings call, Sundar Pichai put AI Overviews at more than 2 billion monthly users in over 200 countries and territories. (Alphabet, 2025) When a borrower asks Gemini or ChatGPT "which NBFC gives loans to small traders", the answer usually names large lenders or aggregators unless smaller firms have clear, specific pages.
What borrowers check before calling:
- Is this lender regulated, and is the name the same as on the loan papers?
- What will it cost in total, including processing and other charges?
- Am I likely to be eligible, and what documents do I need?
- Is there a branch or person near me?
A page that answers all four, written in plain words and with a short form asking for loan type, amount and city, usually converts better than a long application. Use the enquiry log to see which searches lead to applications that are actually disbursed.
How can a lender tell which enquiries became disbursed loans?
By recording the source of every enquiry at the first contact and updating the same record when the loan is sanctioned and disbursed. Without that link, you know which pages get visits but not which ones bring business.
A simple method that works for branches and call centres:
- Ask every new borrower how they found you: Google search, an AI tool, a branch visit, a referral, a DSA or an aggregator.
- Log the loan type, the city and that source on the same day.
- Update the record at sanction and at disbursal, with the loan amount.
- At month end, compare sources by disbursed value, not by enquiry count.
The comparison often surprises lenders. A small number of searches, such as one product in one city, may bring most of the disbursed value, while broad searches bring many enquiries that never qualify.
Keep the log free of personal and financial data. You need the source, product, city, stage and amount, not the borrower's name or PAN.
WebVisiblity's enquiries and revenue report does this monthly and shows it next to your Google and AI visibility, so you can see whether a page that started ranking actually led to loans.
