What buyers check before they call

Where sheet metal machinery orders slip away
  • Laser searches lead to importers with detailed cutting charts.
  • Your pages do not state tonnage and length together, so they cannot be matched.
  • Safety questions go unanswered, and careful buyers move on.
  • Second-hand machine searches pull buyers away before they see new options.
Pages that win the enquiry
  • A page per machine with tonnage, length and controller
  • Cutting thickness charts by material
  • Safety and guarding details

Questions

Questions

Should we publish cutting charts?

Yes. Laser buyers compare cutting thickness and speed by material, and a clear chart helps them shortlist you. Laser searches often lead to importers precisely because their pages carry detailed cutting charts.

A fabricator buying a "fiber laser cutting machine 3kw" wants to know how thick mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium it cuts, at what speed, with which assist gas. Without a chart, they cannot compare your machine with anyone's.

What a useful cutting chart includes:

  • Laser power variants: such as 1.5, 3, 6 and 12 kW.
  • Materials: mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass, galvanised.
  • Maximum thickness and good-quality thickness for each.
  • Cutting speed at common thicknesses.
  • Assist gas: oxygen, nitrogen or air.
  • Bed size options.

Show it as a table in the page text, not only as an image or PDF, so Google and AI tools can read it. Note the conditions and that results depend on material quality and settings.

Do the same for press brakes and shears: a bending chart of tonnage needed per metre at each thickness and V-die opening helps buyers choose the right machine. These charts are among the most linked and shared pages in the field, which also helps your rankings.

Can we track tonnage searches?

Yes. You can add searches with tonnage and length, such as "press brake 100 ton 3 metre", "power press 100 ton", "nc press brake 3 metre" or "laser cutting machine 3kw", exactly as fabricators type them, and track your position weekly.

Tonnage and size searches are where buyers with real requirements show up. A fabricator who types "hydraulic press brake 160 ton 4 metre" has usually sized the job already.

How to build the list:

  • Press brakes: tonnage plus length for your common models.
  • Power presses: tonnage plus type (C-frame, H-frame, pneumatic clutch).
  • Lasers: power plus bed size, such as "fiber laser 6kw 3015".
  • Shears: thickness plus length, such as "cnc shearing machine 6 mm 3 metre".
  • Price versions for your top three models.

Then check that each model page states tonnage and length together. A common reason makers do not rank is that tonnage is on one line, length on another and the model name in a third place, so the page does not clearly match "100 ton 3 metre". Put both in the page title and the first lines of the page.

Track turret punch and other specialised machines separately if you make them, because those buyers search differently. Use the Google Visibility view to compare positions model by model.

How do we stop second-hand machine searches pulling buyers away?

You cannot stop them, but you can give the buyer a reason to consider new. Searches for used press brakes and lasers pull buyers away before they see new options, and a page that compares new with second-hand honestly brings some of them back.

Fabricators upgrading on a budget often search "used press brake", "second hand fiber laser" or "old power press for sale". If your pages only talk about features, those buyers never consider you.

What helps:

  • An honest comparison page: new versus used, covering price, finance, warranty, controller age, spares availability, accuracy and safety.
  • Entry-level models with clear price ranges, aimed at buyers who would otherwise buy used.
  • Finance options that make a new machine's monthly cost comparable with a used one bought outright.
  • Trade-in or buy-back offers, if you have them.
  • Safety: older presses often lack modern guarding, which matters for insurance and worker safety.

Be fair. Used machines suit some buyers, and saying so honestly makes the rest of your page more credible.

Track a few used-machine searches to see who ranks. If dealers of used machines also sell new ones, they may be your competitors for the same buyer. AI tools are also asked "should I buy a used press brake", and a balanced page gives them something to quote.

Should we explain safety and guarding on press and laser pages?

Yes. Careful buyers check safety early, and many move on when safety questions go unanswered. Presses and lasers carry serious hazards, and a page that explains guarding and controls plainly builds trust that specifications alone do not.

What buyers want to know:

  • Press brakes: light curtains or laser guarding, two-hand controls, foot pedal safety, back gauge safety, emergency stops.
  • Power presses: guards, light curtains, clutch and brake monitoring, inching mode.
  • Lasers: enclosed cabin or open bed, laser class, interlocks, fume extraction.
  • Standards your machines are designed to, and CE marking for export where you have it.
  • Training you provide to operators.

Plant heads and safety officers in auto and appliance part makers, and in exporters supplying overseas customers, are often required to check this. A page that answers saves a long back-and-forth.

Write safety details as text on the page, with photos of guards and controls. Avoid claims you cannot support, such as "fully safe", and say exactly which features are standard and which are options.

Google says trust is the most important part of how its systems judge quality. (Google Search Central) Clear safety information is one of the most direct ways a machine maker can show it.

Does ChatGPT recommend Indian fiber laser makers or only importers?

Often only importers today, because their pages publish detailed cutting charts, power options and service networks. Indian makers can be named too, if they state the same facts clearly and show installations.

Buyers ask questions like "best fiber laser cutting machine brands in India", "Indian vs Chinese fiber laser" or "3kw fiber laser with good service in Gujarat". The AI answers from pages it can read and trust.

What helps an Indian laser maker get named:

  1. A page per power and bed size with cutting charts in text.
  2. Source and head brands used, which buyers ask about.
  3. Service network and spares, in numbers.
  4. Installations by city and industry.
  5. Consistent facts on directories, YouTube and exhibition listings.

AI answers shift often. Semrush tracked ChatGPT citing Reddit in close to 60% of responses in early August 2025 and around 10% by mid-September, (Semrush, 2025) which shows how quickly sources change. One check proves little.

Ask the same five questions every week and record who is named and what is said. When you are named, check the facts. When you are not, compare your laser page with the importer's page that was named; the gap is usually the cutting chart or the service section. Live AI Monitoring automates the weekly checks.
